Our village
Ogliastro Cilento
Ogliastro Cilento is a small village in the province of Salerno, in southern Italy, set about 365 metres up in the hills just behind the seaside town of Agropoli. Stone houses, narrow lanes and olive groves all around: this is where you'll find Ca' del Borgo, in the old part of the village.
It's close enough to the sea to reach the beach in a few minutes, and high enough to enjoy cool evenings and quiet nights. That makes it a handy base for exploring the Cilento: Agropoli, the temples of Paestum and the Castellabate coast are all within easy driving distance.
At a glance
- About 365 metres above sea level
- Borders Agropoli, Cicerale and Prignano Cilento
- Hamlets: Eredita and Finocchito
- Agropoli and the sea about 10 minutes away

A little history
A name that comes from the olive tree
The name Ogliastro most likely comes from the Latin oleaster, the wild olive tree: a bond with the land you can still see today in the olive groves surrounding the village.
The village is first recorded in 1059. For centuries it belonged to the feudal lands of Agropoli, under the bishop of Paestum, until 1556; it then passed to several noble families, including the Spigadore and the de Stefano.

What to see in Ogliastro Cilento
The best way to get to know Ogliastro is to wander slowly through the lanes of the old town, past stone doorways, glimpses of the valley and small squares.
Places to see include the church of Santa Croce and the chapel of San Rocco. The village's patron saint is the Madonna del Buon Consiglio, celebrated every year on 26 April.

Where to stay
Stay in the old village of Ogliastro
Ca' del Borgo is a fully restored stone country house among the lanes of the old village. It has three double rooms, terraces overlooking the valley, a pool and a hot tub. Breakfast is brought to your room, whenever you like.
Dogs and cats are welcome. You can park for free in the little square 40 metres from the house, and at the moment there's no tourist tax in Ogliastro.

Festivals, wine and evenings
The old threshing festival
In July, about 2 km from the B&B, the Sagra dell'Antica Trebbiatura celebrates the way wheat used to be threshed: traditional food and a real village party. If you're staying on those days, don't miss it.
Local wineries
To discover Cilento wine we recommend Cantina Luigi Maffini and Cantina De Conciliis, which offer visits and tastings. It's best to book ahead.
Evenings
Ogliastro is a very quiet village in the evening, and that's exactly its charm. For drinks and dinner, head down to Agropoli or Castellabate: in Castellabate, for example, a sunset aperitivo at the Cliff Bar and dinner at Lo Sparviero.

Getting here
How to get to Ogliastro Cilento
By car, Ogliastro is a few minutes inland from Agropoli. The nearest train station is Agropoli-Castellabate, on the Salerno–Reggio Calabria line: Francesco can pick you up there, or there's a 24-hour taxi service.
We do recommend having a car: apart from breakfast we don't serve meals, and it's much easier to get around on your own for dinner, the beach and day trips. On foot, about 600 metres away, the village square has a café, pharmacy, delicatessen, tobacconist and post office.
You'll find the exact address, the map and directions on the Location page.

"Our only regret is leaving too soon! In a beautiful village in the Cilento, this property offers a quiet, private retreat for anyone who wants a break from the frenzy of the city. New, comfortable rooms, the pool and sun deck, and the terrace with water misters are the winning features of this place. Last but not least, thanks to the host Francesco, who loves this work and does everything to make you feel at home, a great person and a great host. We'll definitely be back, highly recommended!"

"A responsive, helpful host, impeccable cleanliness and a dream terrace. In a little village where time stands still, this little gem is set into the stone. What outshines even the beauty and uniqueness of the place, though, is Mr Francesco's passion. His attentions and care for detail make the stay unforgettable. Breakfast was the best: high-quality products served at your preferred time, all accompanied by the peace that only a place like this can offer. Great restaurant tips and easy parking in the area. Thank you Francesco, we'll definitely be back very soon."

"In the narrow lanes of Ogliastro there is a small, welcoming house that opens onto a wonderful valley. The room is comfortable and spacious, but the best thing is Francesco's breakfast brought to your room and enjoyed outside on the beautiful terrace, in silence, far from the chaos of the city. Francesco, with his kindness, is an attentive host."
